Halloween: The Game patch 1.1.0 adds shader precompiling, DLSS-G and PC crash fixes

Halloween: The Game patch 1.1.0 precompiles shaders at startup on PC, adds DLSS-G, improves DLSS, FSR and XeSS performance and fixes crashes on AMD hardware. Here is what changed, the requirements and which GPUs clear them.

IllFonic released Halloween: The Game patch 1.1.0 on October 6, its first Quality of Life update, and a good chunk of it targets PC. Shaders now precompile at startup, DLSS-G support is in, performance improves with DLSS, FSR and XeSS, and several crashes affecting specific AMD hardware are fixed. If the game ran badly or kept crashing on you, it is worth another try.

What was going on

On September 17, IllFonic acknowledged that players on various platforms, or with specific PC hardware configurations, were running into performance problems, including frustrating crashes. The studio said it was closely monitoring crash reports and community information to pinpoint the cause. On October 2 it previewed part of the patch, and 1.1.0 arrived with the full notes.

What 1.1.0 brings and what to do

On performance:

  • Shaders: they now precompile at startup on PC.
  • DLSS-G: support added for DLSS frame generation.
  • Upscalers: better performance when using DLSS, FSR and XeSS.
  • CPU and GPU: better performance across all maps.

On stability, the patch fixes several crashes on specific AMD hardware, several in Story Mode and several during Execution cinematics.

What you need to do is simple: update to 1.1.0 and, if your GPU supports it, try DLSS, FSR or XeSS, since that is where the patch promises gains. IllFonic did not publish recommended settings and says it will keep looking for more performance in future updates.

Halloween: The Game PC requirements

These are the requirements from the Steam page:

Both tiers ask for DirectX 12 and a broadband connection.

Which GPUs run it

Our grades are measured against the recommended requirement and assume 16 GB of RAM, half the 32 GB the recommended tier asks for:

The GTX 1650, GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 fall below the minimum.

On Steam Deck, Valve marks it as Unsupported and has not verified it. Our spec-based estimate gives it an F. You can see the details on the game’s Steam Deck page.
